Vatnajökull Glacier Hike Booked

Today, we finalized the booking of a guided glacier tour.

At the end of Day 5 (Friday 08 July) we will be camping overnight at Skaftafell, Vatnajökull National Park.

On the morning of Day 6 (Saturday 09 July) we will be joining Glacier Guides, on one of their local guided glacial tours.

The guided tour we have chosen (Glacier Wonders – Glacier Walk from Skaftafell) is supposed to be a shorter but stunning guided walk, offering a fantastic introduction to the unique world of glaciers.

The tour takes place on Falljökull glacier tongue (southern edge of the Vatnajökull glacier), which is quite unique in that it offers everything glaciers are best known for, without the need to travel great distances: Crevasses, Jökladrýli (Dirt cones), glacier mice and Moulins.

The guided tour will start with a walk along the bottom of the glacier carved valley, where the guide will explain the unique features left by the retreating Falljökull and Vatnajökull glaciers and their surroundings.

When we arrive at the edge of Falljökull glacier, our guide will assist with crampons, and provide short lesson on use of equipment provided and safety talk.

We will then explore the lower part of the glacier, with many photo and Q&A opportunities along the way, surrounded by breath-taking landscape.

Neil has been Ice-Climbing and Glacier Exploring before in Chile, Norway and Iceland.

Gunnar, Tuva and Dina have not experienced a glacier at close quarters yet –  A new experience awaits them.

We are all really looking forward to this………
